Cadmus: Brand new studio! What a dream
Cadmus, a painter from age 12-13. Shirley bought herself a small paperback book entitled “How to draw and paint”.
Reading it lead to the purchase of oil paints, paint boards. And an easel (still used in the gallery today). If a day off was feasible I would tie my easel and supplies to the back of my bike, ride down to a cove, a lagoon etc. If not, I would go to the privacy of my own room. Once set up in there, I wasn’t bothered, as no one wanted to breathe the alcohol or linseed oil.
She has been painting ever since.
